Ice & Fire Goes LIteSpeed

We've Switched to LiteSpeed!

We are determined to offer high performance hosting solutions. The next step in server optimization seemed to be new web server software. We're said farewell to our old friend, Apache, and gone LiteSpeed Enterprise!

Why We Switched

We are always looking for ways to improve our WordPress hosting environment. Over the years we have tweaked and modified our web servers to make them perform better when serving WordPress websites. We were looking for more that we could do to help page load times when we decided to test a server that we had been hearing great things about: LiteSpeed Web Server.

It didn't take long for us to realize that LiteSpeed Enterprise brought some serious advantages to the WordPress Hosting game. The sites we tested were faster. Management of the server core seemed simplified. Resource consumption was down, and the caching and optimization tools LiteSpeed offered were just too great to pass up. We had to switch!

How to Check Your Website

There are a few ways you can check to see if your site has been switched over to LiteSpeed yet or not. One simple way is to log into your WordPress dashboard and see if there is a new main menu option titled LiteSpeed Cache. If that plugin is installed then your site is already set up and running under the new web server.

We are implementing and testing our chosen caching settings for the LiteSpeed Cache plugin on each site as we switch them over. You may want to look though the plugins options and tweak it yourself, but we came up with our preferred settings through testing with various site setups including WooCommerce and Divi, which powers most of the sites we host. We found disabling some Divi features and letting LiteSpeed take them over improved overall site performance.

If the plugin is not in your dashboard yet, we have not yet upgraded your site. Please be patient as we work though this very large transition. Our team is working 24/7 to get all sites switched over but we are careful to fully test each one, and that takes some time. If your site is not running under LiteSpeed by the middle of February please contact us. We expect to have everyone converted before then.

SEO Redefined

There is no denying that SEO has changed greatly in the last year. The optimization methods that worked two years ago may not work today, as Google in particular changes algorithms and focuses on the users 'search intent' and 'non-click search results' more than direct matching of search terms. And so how we deal with search engine optimization has had to change. One thing that has not changed is our broadening of the scope we use when defining SEO: We just don't care how we get customers and clients to you or if they come through your website or not - as long as we bring them to you.

Our goal in any SEO project is to increase your companies revenue. So we don't limit ourselves to standardized definitions or standardized optimization techniques. Whatever your particular business can benefit from in terms of digital exposure can be tucked under the umbrella of 'SEO'.

Some businesses benefit greatly from focusing on local SEO and continual updates to their GMB (Google My Business) listing. Others benefit more from taking a global approach. Whatever works!

SEO has become the largest element of our services and we enjoy watching our clients benefit from our work. If you would like more information
